We are delighted that our contribution "Basketry in Indigenous everyday lives" to the latest UNESCO ICHCAP book on ’Basketry – Sharing experiences from the field’ is now published!
This #HeritageAlive publication is the ninth volume of the Living Heritage Series, exploring the vitality and cultural significance of basketry as intangible cultural heritage across the world.
Our chapter presents findings from our ’Indigenous crafting in Guyana’ project funded by the National Geographic Society. Working with over 100 basket makers in villages and through peer exchanges, we documented basket making knowledge, but also reflected on and discussed the sustainable management of the craft’s raw materials. It is co-authored by the formidable and craft-loving Cobra Collective UK/Guyana team of Jay Mistry Deirdre Jafferally Rebecca Xavier Grace Albert and Carol Ann Marcus.
